- A visit to Carcassonne is an absolute must. This UNESCO World Heritage city is known for its charming shops and historic streets. You can also stroll along the so-called ‘lices’, the walkway between the inner and outer city walls, offering stunning views. The Carcassonne music festival in summer and the spectacular fireworks on 14 July are also highly recommended.
